It was first held in 1987 and hosted at Hautepierre but in 2011, the competition was transferred to its current location of Strasbourg’s Tennis Club in 2011.

While this tournament will be played this close to the start of the French Open, it’s so refreshing to see the kind of quality it has attracted.
Danielle Collins will be one of the favourites coming into this one given the kind of form she has shown since announcing this is her last season but she will face some resistance from the top seeded Marketa Vondrousova, fellow American Madison Keys and Brazil’s fourth seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia.
With Elina Svitolina also throwing her name in the mix and Anhelina Kalinina one of the dark horses, we could see a very keenly-tussled contest here.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the Strasbourg Open?
Madison Keys ended Danielle Collins’ brilliant run in her retirement year by crushing the fellow American 6-1, 6-2 in the final.
Keys, who had a bye into the second round, much like Collins, did not drop a single set en route her eighth title at this level. She defeated Xinyu Wang, Magda Linette and Liudmilla Samsonova in the lead-up to the final.
Collins had come into the match on the back of a 35-10 win-loss record for the season to go with having lost just two of her 17 previous matches on clay. Both those losses had come at the hands of the towering figure of Aryna Sabalenka, making her a huge favourite against Keys.
Keys, however, showed early sparkle and Collins could never recover from her slow start in the tournament.
What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the Strasbourg Open?
Elina Svitolina lifted the Strasbourg Open trophy for the second time in her career when she defeated fellow unseeded player Anna Blinkova in the final of the tournament. Svitolina won 6-2, 6-3 for a repeat of a 2020 triumph when she had beaten Elena Rybakina in the title-decider.
Having received a wildcard to feature in the tournament, Svitolina dropped just one set in the entire tournament and that came in the semifinal against Clara Burel.
Other than that, Svitolina was in cruise control as she climbed up the rankings from her then 508th in the world having returned to competitive tennis from her maternity leave earlier in the year.
