What Happened in the 2023 Edition of the WTA Zhengzhou Open?
Zheng Qinwen clinched the 2023 title at the Zhengzhou Open by beating the seventh seeded Barbora Krejcikova in the final. Qinwen came back from being a set down to the favourite Krejcikova out. She won 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
This was after the top two seeds, Cori Gauff and Elena Rybakina opted to withdraw from the tournament and the third seed Maria Sakkari was dumped out by Qinwen in the second round.
Qinwen went on to overcome Anhelina Kalinina and Jasmine Paolini to lift the trophy.
Ons Jabeur and Daria Kasatkina were the only other seeds to make the quarterfinal with the former withdrawing from her match against the latter. Kasatkina lost in the semis.
