Holger Rune v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two with both having come on clay – 2022 Hamburg Open and 2024 Madrid Masters.
Griekspoor won them both.
Rune Ends Tsitsipas’ Run
Holger Rune needed an hour and 33 minutes but in the end he was able to thwart Stefanos Tsitsipas’ seven-match winning run, in the process making it to the quarterfinals of this event for the second season running.
The Danish number one had come into this tournament with a 6-6 win-loss record for the season and has already emulated what he did at the Australian Open by winning three matches in a row.
Following wins over Corentin Moutet and Ugo Humbert in the second and third round following an opening bye, Rune sent Tsitsipas packing with a 6-4, 6-4 result.
Rune was broken once in the match after he had taken a 4-3 lead but he stormed back with a second break of serve in the very next game.
In the second set, Rune got past Tsitsipas’ serve in the fifth game and then saved two break-points in the eighth before serving out the match.

Griekspoor Ends Watanuki’s Journey
For about a set, Yosuke Watanuki managed to keep Tallon Griekspoor at bay but the floodgates opened towards the end of it.
And in doing so, Griekspoor eased to a straight-set win over his Japanese opponent to reach his first ever quarterfinal in an ATP Masters 1000 event or higher.
Griekspoor needed an hour and 20 minutes to go past Watanuki, winning 7-6 (4), 6-1. He missed break-points in a couple of games in the first set but once he had scooped up the tie-breaker, Griekspoor hammered past his opponent’s serve twice in the second.
This follows Griekspoor’s excellent performance all tournament which had seen him defeat Alexander Zverev, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Miomir Kecmanovic before this.
The Dutchman was also coming off a semifinal appearance at the ATP Dubai before this.
