Following an injury-riddled 2023 season, Ajla Tomljanovic returned to a nearly full season in 2024 but did not do a lot of note.
She won a WTA 125 title in Hong Kong but other than that there weren’t too many memorable on-court moments for the Aussie. And her start to the 2025 season has been anything but great either.
Tomljanovic kick-started her season with an opening qualifying loss to Ashlyn Krueger at the Adelaide International before she participated in her home Grand Slam.

Simona Waltert has never been in the top 100 of the WTA Rankings and as a result of her back to back underwhelming seasons in 2023 and 2024, she has fallen to 167th on the charts.
It’s been a mixed start for Waltert this year though, having made it to the quarterfinals of the Canberra ITF competition after having to play in the qualifiers. Back to back losses, at the Australian Open qualifiers and an ITF event in Bangalore followed soon after which she was forced to feature in the qualifiers here.
Waltert eased past both her opponents in that, beating Chloe Paquet and Alexandra Eala to enter the main draw here.
The question is if she has enough weapons in her arsenal to take down a higher quality opponent but one who has been struggling to make things work for herself too.
