Maya Joint v Xinyu Wang Head to Head
Joint and Wang have never faced off in a competitive match.
Joint Continues to Impress
Maya Joint shot to fame earlier this year when she made it to the semifinal at the Hobart International. There she had beaten Olga Danilovic, Magda Linette and Sofia Kenin on her way to the last four stage before going down to Elise Mertens.
All of Joint’s wins in that tournament had come in straight sets, and while the Aussie went on to go down in her opener at the Australian Open that was down to the fact that she was up against a top-10 player in Jessica Pegula.
Here in her opener, Joint lost the opening set to Alycia Parks, but stormed right back with two breaks of serves that helped her level the match at a set apiece.
In the decider, things went to serve till the seventh game when Joint drew first blood. Parks levelled things out at 4-4 but another break of serve in the 11th was all that the Aussie needed before she clinched the win off her first match-point.

Wang Edges Past Marino in Opener
Xinyu Wang needed two hours and 26 minutes to get things done in her opener but the good news for the Chinese player is that she finally managed to clinch a main draw victory.
It was her first of the season, following opening round losses at the Brisbane International, Adelaide International (where she was forced to feature in the qualifiers) and Australian Open.
Two of those losses had come to Polina Kudermetova and Emerson Jones, players ranked way lower and second favourites entering the match. The third defeat had come at the hands of Paula Badosa.
She endured 13 aces and four breaks of serve in the match to eke out a fighting 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win and a chance to now make it two in two as she faces a 109th-ranked player in the second round.
Joint v Wang Prediction
While Wang is a bookmaker’s favourite here on account of her experience and higher rank, one must quickly add that there’s not much between the two players given how they are playing at the moment. We could see a fighting encounter and one that might even see the third set.
