Anna Kalinskaya v Mananchaya Sawangkaew Head to Head
Kalinskaya and Sawangkaew have never faced off before this.
Kalinskaya Makes it Two in Two
Anna Kalinskaya fans would be cautiously relieved with her performances in this tournament so far with the Russian having won back to back matches after the kind of start she had had to the season.
With her fitness giving away again, Kalinskaya was forced to retire from her opening round match at the Adelaide after having lost her season opener to Ashlyn Krueger.
And she had followed that up with a withdrawal from the Australian Open having not recovered in time.
She took time to get her feet moving again in the opener here, needing three sets to get past Caroline Dolehide but finally eased to a straight-set win over Simona Waltert in the second set.
Kalinskaya was on court for an hour and 36 minutes and overturned the disappointment of not being able to serve out the match in the second set by clinching it in the tie-breaker.

Sawangkaew Stuns Bucsa
Entering her second round match as a 6/5 underdog, the Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew carved out a neat, straight-set win over Cristina Bucsa to enter the last eight.
In doing so, Sawangkaew has now made it to just her second WTA quarterfinal having done that for the first time in 2024 in Guangzhou.
In a match filled with service breaks, Sawangkaew lost her own on three occasions but managed to get the better of her opponent’s serve a whopping five times. That was enough for her to grab the win, following on from her shock win over Sijia Wei in the first round.
Interestingly, if one includes the two qualifying victories to go with the two in the main draw, Sawangkaew is yet to drop a set in the competition. Can she cause another upset here?
Kalinskaya v Sawangkaew Prediction
Kalinskaya looks like she is still some way from her best but we think her current levels could be enough to take down Sawangkaew in this encounter, with fitness being the only factor to worry about.
