Alejandro Davidovich Fokina made the fourth round at the Australian Open last month and that came as a surprise to a few given what had preceded before that.
The Spaniard had struggled through the first two tournaments of the season, having lost to Jaume Munar in the first round of the Hong Kong Open and the ousted in Adelaide by Sebastian Korda.
At the Australian Open, he benefitted from an injury to Juncheng Shang in the first round but in the following two matches, he was forced to come back from the brink.
Felix Auger-Aliassime was a 1/3 favourite going into his match against Fokina and went two sets to love up. Fokina fought back to win the encounter.
He then lost the first two sets of his third round match to Jakub Mensik too. And again, Fokina came back to seal the victory and move into round four.
By then he had lost steam and fell easily to Tommy Paul but not before he had given the tennis world a reminded why he was once ranked 21st in the world.

Holt in First Main Draw Since Last August
Brandon Holt had come through the qualifiers at the Cincinnati Open last year before crashing out of the tournament to Arthur Fils in his opener there.
Since then, he has tried his hand at a few top-level tournaments but never made it past the qualifiers. That included a second qualifying round exit at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Holt did manage to grab a Challenger title in Thailand but he would be doubly relieved to have now made the main draw of this ATP tournament.
In getting there, Holt had to get past Mitchell Krueger and Ryan Seggerman but now comes his real test. With Holt at his career-best ranking of 179th heading into the qualifiers, even making the main draw will drive him to a new high.
