Ito Finally Comes Through the Qualifiers
Aoi Ito had begun the season with a bang when she went on to win the Canberra ITF title without dropping a set but things did not go as well for her after that.
Before entering the qualifiers at this competition in Doha, Ito had featured in three other tournament qualifiers – at the Australian Open, WTA Singapore and Abu Dhabi Open last week – and lost all three matches.
It was finally in these qualifiers in Doha that Ito managed to overcome Anna Bondar and Varvara Gracheva to enter the main draw.
