Magda Linette v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
Linette and Kudermetova have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Linette Hoping to Grow into Form
Magda Linette did not have the greatest of starts to the season when she fell in the first round at both, the Brisbane International and Australian Open. Those losses, at the hands of McCartney Kessler and Moyuka Uchijima would have hurt the Polish player.
And even in Hobart where she won a round, Linette was sent packing in the second by Maya Joint. Which is why Linette would be facing slightly better after what transpired in Abu Dhabi.
The world number 36 found a way past Renata Zarazua and then stunned the 1/3 favourite Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the second round to clinch a place in the quarterfinals.
Linda Noskova got the better of her there but that should give Linette some breathing space as she prepares to face Veronika Kudermetova here.

Kudermetova Makes Her Way Through the Qualifiers
Veronika Kudermetova was ranked ninth at the end of the 2022 season and while her following season wasn’t as brilliant she still managed a few results which meant she was 19th when 2024 began.
And then things went south for the Russian.
In a rather shocking year, Kudermetova managed to win a mere 16 matches in the entire season, which consisted of 25 tournaments for her. No surprises then that Kudermetova had plummeted to 72nd by the time 2024 ended.
Now begins her journey to try and climb back to respectable levels again and while she was knocked out in the first round of the Brisbane International, Veronika has managed a decent comeback since then.
A quarterfinal in Hobart, a fourth round at the Australian Open and a second round in Abu Dhabi have all helped her back close to the top 50.
The only worry? She is coming off a second round loss to Belinda Bencic last week at the WTA Abu Dhabi where she was double-bagelled.
Wins over Sara Errani and Erika Andreeva in the qualifiers here will obviously help but can she now bring her A game to this opener as well?
Linette v Kudermetova Prediction
Kudermetova starts off a 1/2 favourite here but we think it could get a lot closer than this and Linette could snatch a set away at the very least.
