Belinda Bencic v Emma Navarro Head to Head
Bencic and Navarro haven’t faced off before this.
Bencic Eases Past Ito
It’s early days in the career of Aoi Ito and while she has shown she has the talent to go on to become someone bigger than she is now in the tennis world, her first round opponent wasn’t allowing that process to begin in this tournament.
Belinda Bencic has continued to impress since returning to the courts earlier this year following her maternity leave as she’s gone on to make the fourth round at the Australian Open and then won a title in Abu Dhabi two weeks earlier.
The Swiss player missed the Qatar Open but has come back strongly to clinch her opener against Ito, defeating the Japanese qualifier 6-0, 6-2. The match lasted a mere 64 minutes.
Bencic’s real test will come from here onward as she takes on a top-10 player in her bid to try and emulate her 2019-title-winning run here. And Bencic looks like she can cope with that for now.

Navarro Coming off Doha Shock
It’s not been long since Emma Navarro became a top-10 player in the world and she’s quickly realising how it feels to be the one hunted now by the rest of the pack rather than being a hunter.
It started with an opening defeat in Brisbane and a second round loss at the Adelaide International, where she lost to Kimberly Birrell and Liudmilla Samsonova respectively.
At the Australian Open, Navarro exhibited why she has reached where she has with a quarterfinal showing with wins over Ons Jabeur and Daria Kasatkina but the confidence from that would have dissipated quite quickly when she took to the court in Doha.
Navarro had a first round bye there too but coming up against Leylah Fernandez, she was crushed 6-2, 6-2 in the very next round. That is the kind of consistency she will need to work on if Navarro wants to continue remaining in the top 10.
Bencic v Navarro Prediction
Bencic will be a tough opponent and what’s interesting to see is despite the huge difference in their rankings (which is in favour of Navarro), there is a big gulf in the winning odds as well (in favour of Bencic!)
Backing the Swiss player to clinch this but Navarro won’t be giving up without a fight like she had last week.
Bencic v Navarro Tips
