Zhizhen Zhang v Luca Nardi Head to Head
Their only meeting came in the 2024 edition of the Indian Wells Open in which Nardi had won in three sets and moved to the third round.
Zhang Finally Gets Going in Marseille
After winning just one match on the ATP circuit in all of the first 40 days of the season, Zhizhen Zhang finally got himself some momentum when he made the quarterfinals of the Marseille Open.
While he was expected to overcome Quentin Halys in the first round there – and was forced into a final set tie-breaker before he edged his opponent out, Zhang was a 3/1 underdog in his second round encounter against Hubert Hurkacz.
He needed another three sets but finally managed to seal a second successive victory in that encounter before losing to Zizou Bergs in the next round – but that was down to a retirement because of an injury.
Those two wins on the bounce were Zhang’s first since he had made the final of the Hangzhou Open in September last year. He will hope to not repeat what followed after that showing with the Chinese player losing eight matches in a row!

Nardi Needs Qualifiers to Come Through
Luca Nardi had a decent start to the season when he made it through the qualifiers in Auckland to win his opener against Flavio Cobolli. He also fell to Zizou Bergs in the second round – like Zhang did in the quarterfinals in Marseille – and since then Nardi hasn’t won a main draw match at this level.
In fact, Nardi opted to play in a Challenger competition in Koblenz after the Australian Open, where again he was forced to come through the qualifiers.
He went on to make the final before losing to Ugo Blanchet in that round.
Here Nardi has already overcome Yasutaka Uchiyama and Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets in the qualifiers, losing four games in each of the four sets he played and will now be hoping to add to his main draw wins against a player who might not be fully fit.
Zhang v Nardi Prediction
While Zhang is the favourite on paper we do think that it could get close given his fitness concerns and if this match is played completely we could see a few games here.
