Botic van de Zandschulp v Abedallah Shelbayh Head to Head
This will be the first match between these two players.
Struggling van de Zandschulp Makes it Through the Qualifiers
It has been a woefully underwhelming season for Botic van de Zandschulp so far. So much so that when he won his two qualifiers here to make it to the main draw, those were his first two wins of the season!
That’s right, in the five tournaments that van de Zandschulp has played this year before this, he has lost in the qualifiers in one and was knocked out of the tournament opener in the other four.
Some of those losses were a foregone conclusion given that they came at the hands of Alex de Minaur and Carlos Alcaraz but the other three, to Lorenzo Sonego, Tallon Griekspoor and even to Nishesh Basavareddy are those that he would have been stunned by.
The good news for van de Zandschulp is that as far as the luck of draw is concerned, this is the best that he could have hoped for.
One doesn’t often face a player ranked outside the top 250 in the opening round of an ATP 500 event.

Shelbayh in His First Main Draw Match of the Season
In 2023, Abdullah Shelbayh had become the first ever from his country of Jordan to win a main draw match at the highest level. He soon doubled that count later that year and in turn broke into the top 200 of the ATP Rankings for the first time in his career.
Shelbayh hasn’t had a great time after that though and as a result his ranking has fallen to 267th in the world.
And what that has also meant is he has been forced to feature in the qualifiers of the Challengers circuit to earn some ranking points.
His best showing this season has come at the two Challenger events in Tenerife at which Shelbayh was a quarterfinalist, losing to Henrique Rocha and Pablo Carreno Busta respectively.
Shelbayh will dream of a chance to add to his main draw win count here.
van de Zandschulp v Shelbayh Prediction
While van de Zandschulp is a favourite, starting out at 1/5 to win this, Shelbayh could have an outside chance here. He will try to extend the match as much as possible and we think we might even see a third set.
