Katie Volynets v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 US Open where Tomljanovic defeated Volynets in straight sets.
Volynets Improving Every Year
Having first played in a Grand Slam in 2019, Katie Volyets ended the 2020 season ranked 316th in the world.
Over the next two seasons, she kept trying to push her way forward, trying to break into the top 100 and it took her till 2024 to get going. She ended the year with a WTA 125 title win in Makaraska and that helped her through to 58th in the world.
Volynets hasn’t quite gotten going this season and other than her quarterfinal appearance at the Auckland Open she has won just one main draw match over her next four tournaments.
Sure, some of her losses have come at the hands of Elena Rybakina and Mirra Andreeva, Volynets would be desperate to get going with some results going her way and soon.

Tomljanovic Needs a Turnaround
Ajla Tomljanovic was forced to pull out of the season-opening events at Brisbane and Hobart earlier this year because of a knee injury that came late last year in the Billie Jean King Cup.
She made a last minute decision to feature in the Adelaide International qualifiers but was bundled out by Ashlyn Krueger in the very first match.
Later she defeated Krueger in her Australian Open opener but Diana Shnaider ended her run at that tournament in the second round.
Tomljanovic would have expected to do better at the Singapore Open but in her very first match encounter, the Aussie was blown away by Simona Waltert. Waltert dropped just five games in that victory.
With this kind of form under her belt and with her fitness still a question-mark it remains to be seen how she goes about her business a month after playing her last match.
Volynets v Tomljanovic Prediction
Volynets can be expected to start off a favourite and unless Tomljanovic is completely fit, we can even expect a straight-set victory for her here.
Volynets v Tomljanovic Tips
- Volyets to win in straight sets: 7/5
