Tommy Paul v Gabriel Diallo Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2024 US Open and Paul had won that third round encounter in four sets.
Paul Returns after Dallas Semis
Tommy Paul won three titles last year and he looks to have continued that brilliant form into 2025 even if he hasn’t won a title yet.
Having kick-started his season at the Adelaide International, Paul made the semifinals there before Felix Auger-Aliassime edged him out in a tight three-setter.
A quarterfinal at the Australian Open was stuff of dreams as Paul continued his brilliant streak of form and more recently, in what was his third tournament of the season, the American made it as far as the semifinal in Dallas.
That included wins over three Americans, Jenson Brooksky, Ethan Quinn and Reilly Opelka before the eventual winner Denis Shapovalov got the better of him.
Paul will look to start things off here on a solid note and build on his 9-3 win-loss record for the season.

Diallo Easy Winner in Qualifiers
Having had a 2024 season in which Gabriel Diallo climbed up the rankings charts, going from 139th to 87th, he has managed to maintain that level of ranking so far this season.
The Canadian player came through the qualifiers in Hong Kong to make it to the second round, then defeated Luca Nardi in the first round of the Australian Open and has now bagged a couple of qualifying wins in Acapulco to enter the main draw.
More vitally, Diallo dropped a total of three games over the four sets he played in the qualifiers that included wins over Alfonso De Alba Valdes Rafael and Mattia Bellucci.
Can he translate that form into something more substantial against a top-10 player here? Seems quite a challenge.
Paul v Diallo Prediction
Paul’s gotten into enough rhythm this season to come through without too many worries in an opening round encounter against a player ranked outside the top 80. Might even see a straight-setter here.
Paul v Diallo Tips
- Paul to win in straight sets: 5/6
