Emma Navarro v Petra Martic Preview
Head-to-Head: Petra Martic had won their first meeting in Cincinnati in 2023 and Navarro came in Auckland 2024 to make it 1-1.
Emma Navarro should not have a lot of problems taking down Petra Martic and marching into the quarterfinals given how things have been for both players.
Martic, for starters, has been so woefully out of touch that the once 14th-ranked player has fallen to 124th in the world. In fact, even at the start of the 2024 season, Martic was ranked 40th but the results have just not come.
More recently, Martic managed a quarterfinal appearance in Linz after starting out as a qualifier and has now made the second round here with a win over the struggling Sloane Stephens.
That might not be enough when she faces a player who had made the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and more recently defeated the in-form Belinda Bencic in Dubai.
While Navarro’s journey there was ended by Sorana Cirstea, we can expect her to come back with a bang here against Martic.
Navarro v Martic prediction: Navarro to win in straight sets: 4/6

Magda Linette v Zeynep Sonmez Preview
Head-to-Head: This will be the first meeting between the 37th-ranked Magda Linette and the 88th-ranked Zeyney Sonmez.
Magda Linette hadn’t made the brightest of starts to the season but she has had a couple of solid showings in Abu Dhabi and Doha.
She had won a couple of rounds at each one of them, defeating players of the pedigree of Magdalena Frech, Veronika Kudermetova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the process.
While she lost her opener to Dayana Yastremska in her Dubai opener, Linette has started things off rather well here with a 6-4, 6-0 rout of Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Linette starts off an 11/20 favourite against Zeynep Sonmez who continued Maria Sakkari’s torturous run on the WTA circuit with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Sonmez, who had started the 2024 season ranked 164th in the world, is currently at her career-best ranking of 88th, but it must be quickly added that her win over Sakkari in the first round here was her first ever main draw victory of the season.
Before this, she had featured in six tournaments, losing in the first round on two occasions while failing to make the main draw on four others.
Linette v Sonmez prediction: Linette to win: 11/20
