Emiliana Arango v Francesca Jones Preview
Head-to-Head: It’s a match between two players ranked in their 130s, having played in just one previous encounter and that came in a WTA 125 event in Cancun. Arango had defeated Jones in that match.
In what turned out to be a repeat of their qualifier that was held only two days ago, Emiliano Arango defeated Maria Lourdes Carle in the first round of the tournament as well.
With Arango having needed three sets to get past Carle in the qualifier, she improved drastically to defeat the lucky loser 6-2, 6-3 in their opening match.
This win made it her eighth in a row which included five at the Cancun Open tournament, a WTA 125 event and two victories in the qualifiers. Arango now faces another opponent whom she had only recently faced in the form of Britain’s Francesca Jones.
Jones is also a qualifier in this event and had come into the main draw with wins over Ana Sofia Sanchez and Leonie Kung. And in the first round, Jones was leading Mayar Sherif by a set and 3-0 in the second before her opponent retired from the match.
Having made the semifinals in Cancun, Jones herself is in some good form and as a result we could see an exciting battle here.
Arango v Jones prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5

Beatriz Haddad Maia v Rebecca Sramkova Preview
Head-to-Head: Overall, which includes the ITF competitions and qualifiers of WTA events there have been five previous meetings between them and Haddad Maia. At the highest level they have met once and that match came at the 2024 Indian Wells Open where Haddad Maia won in straight sets.
For a player once ranked 10th in the world, Beatriz Haddad Maia’s record this season has been alarming. She has featured in eight matches spread across five tournaments and won just two matches leaving her slightly flummoxed by the change of fortunes.
While Haddad Maia did make the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year, some of her defeats have come at the hands of players she should have never lost to given the difference in their rankings.
More recently, Haddad Maia hasn’t won in three matches, falling to Veronika Kudermetova, Magdalena Frech and Anastasia Potapova. She had a first round bye here.
And she will be up against a player, Rebecca Sramkova who has herself struggled to get going in 2025 on occasions but still has five wins under her belt from seven tournaments.
The last of these wins came in the first round here when she routed the woefully out of sorts Lulu Sun, while other than that, Sramkova had made the third round in the WTA 1000 event in Doha as well.
Bookmakers have both players starting out at 10/11 and it won’t be a surprise if Sramkova adds to her opponent’s agony.
Haddad Maia v Sramkova prediction: Sramkova to win: 10/11
