Peyton Stearns v Magda Linette Head to Head
Stearns and Linette have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Stearns Continues to Hover Outside the Top 40
Peyton Stearns had done excellently through the .2024 season to find herself a place in the top 50 but in the two odd months that have followed this year, the American has found it tough to break through the top 40.
It’s been a clear-cut case of a sudden rise in the quality of her opposition now that she belongs to the big league. While Stearns has had her fair share of success this year too, she hasn’t quite nailed a memorable performance so far.
For instance, Stearns would be quite proud of the manner in which she defeated Ons Jabeur and Qinwen Zheng in the WTA Dubai but she went down in a hurry in the third round to Mirra Andreeva.
Before that, Stearns had played in five tournaments this year and won just three main round matches and lost in the first round of the Austin Open just prior to this week.

Linette Form a Worry
Magda Linette has had a third round appearance at both, the WTA Abu Dhabi and WTA Doha before this in 2025 but other than that she has struggled to get going.
It began with opening round defeats in Brisbane and at the Australian Open and then in more recent times, Linette also lost two of the three matches she played in Dubai and Merida.
What this also means is that Linette has featured in every tournament played over the last four weeks and coming into the Indian Wells Open, not only will she have to worry about her form but also the constant play.
This was probably also the reason why Linette was forced to retire from her second round match in Merida.
Ousted in the first round here last year and having never made it past the second, Linette will need a big turnaround to make an impression.
Stearns v Linette Predictions
No surprises that Stearns starts off an 11/20 favourite here but Linette is no pushover and if she can find some of her form, we could see a fighting match that could go to the third set.
