What Happened in the 2025 Edition of the ATP Buenos Aires?
Joao Fonseca won his maiden ATP title by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the final. He won 6-4, 7-6 (1).
Fonseca had earlier shocked the eighth seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the first round, overcome Federico Coria in three sets in the second, saved match-points to go past Mariano Navone in the quarterfinals before needing three sets against Laslo Djere in the semifinals.
This was after defending champion Facundo Díaz Acosta fell in the very first round of the tournament and Diego Schwartzman retired from competitive tennis after losing in the second round.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the ATP Buenos Aires?
Facundo Diaz Acosta had entered the 2024 edition of the Argentina Open as a wildcard and he went on to win the title by defeating the third seeded Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
This was after Jarry had made things easier for Acosta by stunning the top seeded and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal. He beat the Spaniard 7-6 (2), 6-3 in that semifinal.
Acosta, who had never made the final of any ATP event before that and would be sent out packing in the first round at both, the 2024 Australian Open and Wimbledon, did not drop a set in the entire tournament.
