Reilly Opelka v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head
Opelka and Lehecka will be facing off for the first time in their careers.
Opelka Ends Mpetshi Perricard’s Run
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is one of the most improved players in the world over the past 12 months but when you have just beaten Novak Djokovic in the previous round, the confidence that comes with it is almost unparalleled.
That’s what Opelka had coming into his semifinal against Mpetshi Perricard and it was on full display.
Opelka needed just an hour and 25 minutes to get past Mpetshi Perricard, winning 6-3, 7-6 (4) with the American’s serve proving to be unassailable yet again.
He faced four break-points in the entire match and saved them all but more crucially converted one of the two chances he got to overcome his opponent’s serve in the first set.
That made it his fourth successive straight-set win and a chance to break into the top 150 of the ATP Rankings.
Lehecka Benefits from Dimitrov Injury
Grigor Dimitrov was a 1/2 favourite coming into his semifinal against Jiri Lehecka. The Czech player, however, displayed a solid serving model in the first set and continued to keep Dimitrov at bay in the second before his opponent was forced to retire from the encounter because of a groin injury.
Lehecka led 6-4, 4-4 at that stage, having faced not even one break-point in the encounter even as he was broken once in the opening set.
In winning this, Lehecka has now managed to get within a match of defending his title here following a string of performances to remember in the tournament before this.
He had earlier taken out Holger Rune in the first round and while he was taken to three sets by Yoshihito Nishioka he found a way to get past him. In the quarterfinals, Lehecka slammed past Nicolas Jarry.
Can he now find a counter to the Opelka serve?
Opelka v Lehecka Prediction
The odds seem to be favouring Lehecka here with bet365 offering 4/5 for his victory but given Opelka’s ability to serve himself out of trouble, we think this could be headed the American’s way.
