Donna Vekic v Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head
Both their previous meetings have gone in favour of Pavlyuchenkova. These came at the 2023 Tokyo Open and 2024 Australian Open.
Vekic Stuns Shnaider
It took Donna Vekic over three hours to win her third round match but the world number 19 would be quite chuffed with her victory, having come into the tournament on the back of a 0-3 record for the season.
After pulling back from being an early break down, Vekic won the first set in a tie-breaker. In the second, she fought back three times from that position again but Shnaider levelled things out in the second tie-breaker that followed.
Shnaider then served for the match at 5-3 in the third set before Vekic came back to break her twice in a row to grab her fourth round spot.
Vekic, who was ranked 19th in the world at the start of the competition and was knocked out in the first round last year, could move to a career-best of 17th when the new rankings come out, even if she loses this one.
That, on its own, will be something of a confidence-booster for the Croat.
Pavlyuchenkova Easy Winner over Siegemund
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova did not face any trouble in getting to her fourth round berth, crushing Laura Siegemund 6-1, 6-2 in an hour and 34 minutes.
In what turned out to be a one-sided encounter, Pavlyuchenkova earned herself a couple of breaks of serves in each of the two sets to find herself a place in the round of 16 here for the fourth time in her career.
Incidentally, on each of the previous three occasions that she has got here, Pavlyuchenkova has also managed to make it to the last eight.
Having started off in the season with a first round loss to Marketa Vondrousova in Adelaide, Pavlyuchenkova defeated Yue Yuan and Anastasia Potapova in her first couple of rounds here.
Vekic v Pavlyuchenkova Prediction
It’s no surprise that the world number 19 starts off an 8/11 favourite against someone ranked outside the top 30 but we could be in for a roller-coaster of an encounter here which goes right down to the wire.
