Emma Navarro v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head
Navarro and Kasatkina have never faced off in a competitive match before this
Navarro in a Fighting Win over Jabeur
As a world number eight one would have expected Emma Navarro to make the fourth round and that’s exactly what she has done.
What’s a tad surprising is the manner in which she has got there.
Navarro needed two tie-breakers and three sets to get past Peyton Stearns in the first round and was then taken to another three-setter by Xinyu Wang in the second round as well.
And then starting out a 3/4 favourite against Ons Jabeur, Navarro thwarted a fighting effort from her Tunisian opponent to edge her out 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
She was on court for two hours and five minutes, lost her serve six times after facing 16 break-points and it was only the sixth break of serve she got in the seventh game of the final set that took her home.
Can Navarro ward off the Kasatkina threat to make it to the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam for the third time in her career – and in a row?
Kasatkina Blasts Past Putintseva
Yulia Putintseva put up a brave front against Daria Kasatkina in the first set of their third round match, even taking a 3-0 lead in the encounter before she was broken in the in the fifth game.
Still, at 5-5 in the opening set, it could have gone either way but that’s where Kasatkina took control of the encounter.
The Russian broke Putintseva in the 11th game before serving it out in the very next one to grab the set. And following this, Kasatkina went on a rampage as she got the better of her opponent’s serve three times in a row.
While Kasatkina failed to serve out the match at 5-0, she broke Putintseva for the fifth time in a row to clinch her place in the fourth round.
This followed straight-set victories against Viktoriya Tomova and Wang Yafan in the first two matches for following her third round appearance at the Brisbane International and a quarterfinal showing in Adelaide.
Navarro v Kasatkina Prediction
There’s nothing to choose between these two and this isn’t just us saying it but also the bookmakers who have both players going in at 10/11 for this encounter. Our (educated) guess is that is that Navarro could face some heat given the amount of time she has already spent on the court and that’s where Kasatkina might just have a teeny-weeny advantage.
