Katie Boulter v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head
Boulter and Begu have never faced off before this.
Boulter Returning from Injury
Katie Boulter has been out of action since the Australian Open which means she hasn’t played a competitive match in over a month and a half.
When asked what she expects on her return, Boulter admitted she would like to slowly get back to where she was rather than have very high expectations from the get go.
And that’s probably the reason the former world number 21 is not an overwhelming favourite coming into her second round match here against Begu.
Boulter also doesn’t have a great record in Indian Wells. She has featured five times in this competition and not once has she gone past the first round.
So by getting an opening bye here, Boulter has already passed that hurdle but can she now record her maiden win in this competition?

Begu Fights Through to a Win over Li
Irina Begu had come into this competition on the back of a rather poor start to the season.
She had failed to qualify for the main draw in Adelaide for starters and then gone on to lose in the first round at the Australian Open, and then in Cluj-Napoca and Dubai.
Which is why it was no surprise that she was a distant second favourite in her opener here against Ann Li, who had been a player in form.
Begu surprised a few, including her opponent here, defeating her 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in a match lasting a touch over two hours. She lost her serve twice in the encounter but came back strongly to break Li on five occasions to clinch her first ever win here since 2021.
Can she now take the fight to the returning Boulter?
Boulter v Begu Predictions
Boulter is 11/20 to win this but we are a tad apprehensive of this given her return from injury. We could see a longish encounter though and an over-games market looks to be a good bet.
