Ben Shelton v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two and Shelton has won all three. These came at the 2024 Houston Open and Washington Open and the 2025 Australian Open.
Shelton Sends Khachanov Away
Ben Shelton might have lost some of his Australian Open form in the lead-up to the Indian Wells Open but his performance in these two matches have reminded everyone again why he’s rated so highly.
After having eased past Mariano Navone in straight sets in his second round match following an opening, Shelton was expected to face a bit of a challenge from Karen Khachanov in his third round encounter.
That challenge lasted all of an hour and 35 minutes with Shelton losing his serve just once in the encounter.
All it took was a late break of serve in the first set to clinch it. In the second, Shelton fell 3-5 down only to come back and break his opponent twice and grab the win 6-3, 7-5.

Nakashima Blasts Arnaldi Away
In a match that lasted an hour and 15 minutes, Brandon Nakashima found a way to go past Matteo Arnaldi in their third round encounter.
Nakashima, who had entered the tournament having never made it past the second round in his previous five attempts, overcame Arnaldi 6-2, 6-4 to enter the fourth.
With a straight-set win over Rinky Hijikata in the previous round, Nakashima entered this match with a lot of confidence and that showed. He faced just one break-point and he saved it while getting the better of his opponent’s serve three times.
This was Nakashima’s fifth win in six matches having also made the Mexican Open semifinal in the week preceding this tournament.
He will now need to up the ante against fellow American and world number 12.
