Aryna Sabalenka v Liudmilla Samsonova Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and both have won two apiece.
Samsonova won at the 2022 Guadalajara Open and 2023 Canadian Open while Sabalenka’s victories came at the 2023 Adelaide International and the 2024 Cincinnati Open.
Sabalenka Blows Kartal off the Court
Aryna Sabalenka had no trouble getting past British player and surprise entrant Sonay Kartal in their fourth round encounter, winning the match 6-1, 6-2.
This was exactly the same scoreline that Sabalenka had won by against Lucia Bronzetti in her third round as well, with the world number one needing an hour and 12 minutes this time.
Kartal had a bit of a moment when she began the match with a break of Sabalenka’s serve but from that point onward it was all one-way traffic.
Sabalenka broke back three times in the first set and two more times in the second to seal her victory and make it to the quarterfinal.
This will be just the second time in her career that Sabalenka will feature in a last eight match in this tournament while having done one better than when she was ousted by Emma Navarro in the fourth round last year.

Samsonova Sends Paolini Packing
It was expected to be tight match with both Liudmilla Samsonova and Jasmine Paolini going in odds 10/11 odds to win it. What it turned out to be in the end was a damp squib with Samsonova routing her world number six opponent in double-quick time.
In a match lasting a mere 67 minutes, Samsonova pulled off a 6-0, 6-4 victory to enter the quarterfinal of this tournament for the first time in her career.
Samsonova had made the fourth round here once in 2022 and but over the past two seasons had been ousted in the second round.
In the first set against Paolini, she dropped just three points on her own serve while breaking Paolini three times in a row. She then went 2-0 up in the second set and then served for a 5-1 lead before Paolini broke back.
By then it was too little, too late and Samsonova finished things off soon after that.
