ATP Barcelona Open 2025 Predictions for Second Round on Friday, April 18 Feat. Alcaraz v de Minaur, Tsitsipas v Fils & Rune v Ruud

The quarterfinal action at the 2025 ATP Barcelona Open will be held on Friday, April 18 as Carlos Alcaraz faces Alex de Minaur and Casper Ruud faces Holger Rune. You can get the best predictions and tips for the day from this tournament today.

Carlos Alcaraz v Alex de Minaur

World number two Carlos Alcaraz could face his first test of the competition when he faces the seventh-ranked Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals in Barcelona. This will be a repeat of their semifinal meeting in 2022 where Alcaraz had won in three sets.

This was one of their three meetings and Alcaraz has won every single time including earlier this year at the Rotterdam Open where he was taken to three sets. On clay, however, Alcaraz has a solid record and is one of the best players going around.

De Minaur, on the other hand, isn’t overly fond of this surface but has been making changes to his play to adjust to it – something that paid rich dividends last week as he made the semifinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters.

This week, he has already taken out Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Jacob Fearnley in straight sets. He could put up a brave front here but we believe Alcaraz will still win in two.

Alcaraz v de Minaur Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 4/6

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Arthur Fils

World number 16 Stefanos Tsitsipas has a difficult quarterfinal against the 14th-ranked Arthur Fils with the two having faced off twice before this and the Greek number one having lost both times.

A four-time finalist at Barcelona, Tsitsipas did not have it easy against Sebastian Korda in the second round but came through in straight sets in the end. This was after he had knocked out Reilly Opelka with some ease in the first.

Fils will start off a slight favourite here with bookmakers offering 8/11 for his victory. The reason for this is down to his head to head record against Tsitsipas but also the fact that Fils has shown he is capable of turning things on their head on clay too.

He had defeated Andrey Rublev on his way to the Monte-Carlo Masters quarterfinals last week and has already taken out Pablo Carreno Busta and Pedro Martinez in straight sets.

Backing him to edge past Tsitsipas here.

Tsitsipas v Fils Tip: Fils to win: 8/11

Holger Rune v Casper Ruud

This is a rather strange head to head. They have already played seven times and you would expect someone like Holger Rune to have some sort of a record here but Casper Ruud has beaten him in six of those matches.

And on clay, it’s 5-1 in favour of Ruud, who then went on to edge past him in a hardcourt encounter at the Acapulco Open last year.

Rune will be mighty relieved to have made the quarterfinals having entered the tournament on the back of three successive defeats. He did not have a lot of trouble getting past Albert Ramos Vinolas but was forced to come back from being a set down to get past Sebastian Baez.

Ruud has had it way easier, defeating Daniel Elahi Galan and Hamad Medjedovic in straight sets to come through. The latter opponent did put up a fight but Ruud seemed to have had all the answers.

Backing Ruud to come through here as well. Probably in straight sets.

Rune v Ruud Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 8/5
