Mananchaya Sawangkaew v Wei Sijia Head to Head
While these two have never faced off at this level, there have been three previous matches between them on the ITF circuit and Sijia has won them all. All three came in outdoor hardcourt competitions with two of them having been played in 2024 and one as recently as in the 2025 Canberra ITF tournament.
Sawangkaew Eases Through Her Qualifiers
Thailand number one Mananchaya Sawangkaew made her WTA main draw debut last year when she came through the qualifiers to make it to the Thailand Open.
Sawangkaew would go on to win a round at the China Open for the first time in her career and then registered back to back wins in the Guangzhou Open to enter the quarterfinals. This included a win over Yue Yuan in the second round.
In 2025, Sawangkaew hadn’t made the main draw of any WTA event before this and her performances on the ITF circuit had been ordinary too – losing in the second round in Canberra and the first in Bangalore.
Which is why a win over fellow Thai player Lanlana Tararudee and Saisai Zheng in these qualifiers would have given her a lot of confidence coming into the main draw of this tournament.
Sijia Showing Signs of Breaking Through
Sijia Wei wasn’t even ranked at the end of the 2021 season and a year later ended the year at 418th in the world. She climbed to 232nd in the world after the 2023 season and at the end of 2024 had risen even further to 134th on the WTA charts.
Following her solid start to the season, Wei has already gone up to 117th and with a top-100 breakthrough her next target, another couple of wins in the qualifiers at the Singapore Open will help her in that cause.
Wei has already made the final of the Canberra ITF tournament and then won three successive rounds to qualify for the Australian Open earlier this year – her maiden appearance at the Grand Slam level.
Can she now win a round here and help herself to a chance at playing a higher-ranked player as she bids to make a distant run in the competition.
Sawangkaew v Sijia Prediction
No surprises who the favourite is with bookmakers offering 4/6 for a Sijia victory here and we will have to go with that given her record against Sawangkaew at the lower level and her solid form in recent times.
