Anna Kalinskaya v Simona Waltert Head to Head
Kalinskaya and Waltert have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Kalinskaya Finally Notches up a Win
Injuries have become a part of Anna Kalinskaya and while that’s the case with most sportspersons’ career, the frequency at which the Russian gets injured has been a cause for alarm among her fans.
Which is why it would have been a bit of a relief to see Kalinskaya come through her first round match against Caroline Dolehide, in turn notching up her first win of the season.
What would have made the win a bit more special is that Kalinskaya was taken to the distance before winning it 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, getting a full workout following the poor start that she’s had in the season.
Earlier, Kalinskaya had been dismissed in straight sets at the Brisbane International opener by Ashlyn Krueger before an injury forced her to retire from her Adelaide International first round match against Belinda Bencic.
And she opted not to take to court at the Australian Open for fitness reasons too.

Waltert Stuns Tomljanovic
Simona Waltert had made it to the main draw of this competition with successive straight-set wins in the qualifiers which included a victory over the 8/11 favourite Alexandra Eala in the second qualifying round.
Not too many thought that the 179th-ranked player would be able to continue with that run against former world number 32 Ajla Tomljanovic as well but that’s exactly what she did.
And it wasn’t just the win but the manner of victory that would have surprised a few as Waltert stormed into the second round with a 6-2, 6-3 scoreline. She was on court for a mere hour and 16 minutes.
This was Waltert’s first main draw win at this level since the 2023 French Open, making it extra special.
Kalinskaya v Waltert Prediction
Kalinskaya showed she was back to her full fitness and if she can maintain that, we would have to back her to win this and probably do that in straight sets as well.
