Flavio Cobolli v Jesper de Jong Head to Head
While these two players have never faced off in an ATP match at this level, there have been two previous meetings between them on the Challenger circuit before this. Both matches came on clay and it’s 1-1 on head to head.
Cobolli Gets An Opening Bye
Seeded third in this competition, Flavio Cobolli had a first round bye and just as well because he is coming into this tournament on the back of three successive defeats.
Having kick-started the season rather well with successive wins in the United Cup, Cobolli fell in straight sets to Tomas Machac in his country’s quarterfinal. It also knocked his team out of the reckoning.
This was followed by Cobolli going a set down to Luca Nardi in Auckland before he retired from the encounter and then a loss to Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Australian Open.
Needless to say Cobolli, who is four away from his career-best ranking of 30th, prefers playing on clay but he showed he is more than capable in hardcourt competitions last year.
Can he shake off those successive losses and pull off something special in this competition?

de Jong Benefits from Halys Injury
Quentin Halys has had fitness this season but Jesper de Jong was coming off a 0-3 record for the season. That he managed to take advantage of a less than fully-fit Halys is due credit to his stickability.
The Dutchman saved a set-point in the opening set tie-breaker in which he squandered one of those of his own too before winning it 9-7. And that was all that he needed to do before Halys retired from the match because of another fitness issue.
What that meant was after de Jong’s defeats to Andre Ilagan, Aziz Dougaz and Liam Draxl, de Jong was finally able to notch up a W next to his name in 2025.
He will now be up against a player who has had his moments on the circuit but a lot of them before 2024 had come on clay. Can de Jong benefit from that?
Cobolli v de Jong Prediction
While Cobolli’s record on clay is far superior than other surfaces, there’s enough evidence to justify backing him to win this one against an equally struggling de Jong, especially when it comes to indoor hardcourt competitions.
Cobolli v de Jong Tips
- Cobolli to win: 1/2
- Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
