Aleksandar Kovacevic v Mattia Bellucci Head to Head
Kovacevic and Bellucci have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Kovacevic Sends Goffin Packing
Needing to defeat Robin Bertrand and Pablo Carreno Busta in the qualifiers to get to the main draw, Aleksandar Kovacevic registered his first main draw victory at this level since his Belgrade Open foray last November.
In a match that went for nearly two hours, Kovacevic registered a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win over his more illustrious opponent to seal off his second round berth.
In what turned out to be a cagey encounter that saw both players two breaks of serves in each of the first two sets respectively, it was the seventh game of the final set that made all the difference.
Kovacevic broke his opponent in that game before saving a break-point on his way to the win.
Having won a Challenger title earlier this year on indoor hardcourt, it does look like Kovacevic seems well-prepared for whatever’s been thrown at him.

Bellucci Surprise for Pouille
While Lucas Pouille was an 8/11 favourite coming into this first round encounter, Mattia Bellucci found a way past him. He did so with ease too, winning in straight sets and in an hour and 41 minutes.
Having come into the match with three successive tournaments of no main draw victories under his belt, Bellucci saved a whopping 10 out of 10 break-points while getting the better of Pouille’s serve on one occasion in each of the sets.
In winning this match, Bellucci had done so for the first time at this level since the Shanghai Masters last year where, as a qualifier he had reached the second round at the expense of Billy Harris.
Can he double his tally here?
