Anna Kalinskaya v Ann Li Head to Head
Kalinskaya and Li have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Li in Scrappy Win over Birrell
It took Ann Li an hour and 40 minutes and two tie-breakers to get past Kimberly Birrell in the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open.
Li, who had come off straight set wins over Daria Saville and Maria Timofeeva in her first two rounds, was 11/20 to grab a victory here. She started off by dropping her serve in the very first game before retaliating with successive breaks of the Birrell serve.
Serving for the set at 5-3, Li then lost her serve again, soon pushing the set into a tie-breaker. She clinched it easily to take the lead.
In the second set, it was LI who drew first blood with a break of serve in the third game, dropped her serve in the fourth and again missed out on serving for the set (and match) when she was broken in the 10th game.
The following tie-breaker turned out to be one-way traffic with Li clinching it 7-4.

Kalinskaya Stretched to Three by Sawangkaew
Anna Kalinskaya was up against a Thai qualifier in her quarterfinal in the form of Mananchaya Sawangkaew and had gone into the encounter as a 2/5 favourite.
For a while it looked like things were headed her way but Sawangkaew came back strongly in the second set to level the proceedings.
Momentarily shaken, Kalinskaya turned the tide in the third set as she converted three of the four break-points she got there to bagel Sawangkaew. The Russian was on court for nearly two hours for her 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win.
This follows a three-set win over Caroline Dolehide in the first round and a straight-set victory against Simona Waltert in the second for Kalinskaya.
With the kind of off-colour form and fitness-related issues that Kalinskaya had faced before coming into this tournament, she would be pleased to have made it this far.
Can she get back into full rhythm though?
Kalinskaya v Li Prediction
Kalinskaya hasn’t still been at her best and that has been on display in all three of the matches she has played so far in this tournament. That doesn’t take away from the fact that she still starts off a favourite but Li could prove to be a handful.
Kalinskaya v Li Tips
- Li to win a set – Yes: 8/13
- Over 20.5 games in the match: 8/11
