Andrey Rublev v Aleksandar Kovacevic Head to Head
Rublev and Kovacevic have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Rublev Benefits from Basilashvili Retirement
Andrey Rublev had begun the season on a shockingly underwhelming note with first round losses at both, the Hong Kong Open and Australian Open.
Which is why all eyes were on him when he took to court here in Montpellier.
A first round bye would have given him some leeway before he eased to a straight-set win over Christopher Eubanks in the second round.
And now in the quarterfinals, Rublev did not face too much of a threat from Nikoloz Basilashvili who was forced to retire from the encounter while trailing 2-5 in the first set.
A win here will take Rublev to his first final since the Canadian Open last year.

Excellent Form Continues for Kovacevic
Aleksandar Kovacevic has a career-best ranking of 72nd in the world and now ranked 102nd, he was forced to feature in the qualifiers here.
The good news for the American player was he was coming off a title win in an indoor hardcourt Challenger competition and that confidence looked to have rubbed off on him.
He overcame Robin Bertrand and Pablo Carreno-Busta in the qualifiers before defeating David Goffin, Mattia Bellucci and now, Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinal to get to the semifinal.
The manner of the Bublik win would also make him supremely confident entering this one, with Kovacevic being on court for a mere hour and 16 minutes and with three breaks of serve. He saved eight break-points too much to the chagrin of his opponent.
A win her could take Kovacevic to his career-best ranking but he is up against a top-10 player at that.
Rublev v Kovacevic Prediction
Rublev might not have a lot of form and confidence coming up against Kovacevic but it doesn’t take too long for him to turn things around too, especially in indoor hardcourt competitions – a surface on which he has won six titles.
Rublev v Kovacevic Tips
- Rublev to win in straight sets: 4/5
