Ranked 82nd in the world at the end of the 2023 season, Ashlyn Krueger jumped to 64th after a season and a month into 2025 has already broken into the top 50 for the first time in her career.
And she managed to do that despite her first round exit at the Australian Open where she fell in three sets to Ajla Tomljanovic.
It was her showings before the season’s first Grand Slam that have helped her not just gain in ranking points but also her confidence playing at the highest level.
The American won three matches in a row at the Brisbane International including one against a top-20 player in Anna Kalinskaya, to make the quarterfinals. This was followed by victories against Paula Badosa and Marta Kostyuk in Adelaide to enter the last eight stage there too.

Kessler Comes Through the Qualifiers
Last year, McCartney Kessler had announced herself to the world when she clinched the Cleveland Open title.
This year, she has already lifted her second WTA title when she went the distance at the Hobart International, defeating Dayana Yastremska and Elise Mertens on her way to the victory.
Kessler lost in the first round at the Australian Open – a surprise loss to the 11/5 underdog Zhang Shuai but has come back well in the qualifiers of this compettion.
She routed Yulia Starodubtseva and coasted to another straight-set win over Teodora Kostovic to seal her place in the main draw.
