While Opelka won their first ever match at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters, Norrie came back to defeat the American player at the 2021 Paris Masters and 2022 Delray Beach Open.
Norrie in a Comeback Win over Michelsen
Since making the quarterfinal at the Hong Kong Open, things hadn’t quite gone Cameron Norrie’s way on court. He had lost three in a row including in the first round at the Australian Open as well.
Which is why when he fell a set behind in his opener here against Alex Michselsen, it looked like the history was repeating itself.
Two late breaks of serve won Michelsen the set before they exchanged breaks of serves to take the second set into a tie-breaker.
Things turned around at this stage for Norrie, who ran away to a 7-1 win there and then broke Michelsen two more times at the start of the decider. A little over two hours into the match, Norrie had finally notched up a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 win, his first since the first week of January.
He will face a lot tougher opponent in the second round.

Opelka Continues to Excel
Reilly Opelka continued to hammer down aces at his opponents, adding 18 more to his kitty as he completed a straight-set win over Alexander Shevchenko in the first round.
In a match lasting an hour and 17 minutes, Opelka clinched a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win.
It was an encounter in which both players matched each other with their serves, a total of just one break-point was on show during the match. It went to Opelka and he broke Shevchenko in the third game of the second set before wrapping things up easily post that.
Where Opelka gained an upper hand over his opponent was with his second serves, winning a whopping 68% of them as compared to a meagre 41% for Shevchenko.
Come the second round, Opelka will know that if he can continue remaining fit, he has a very good chance of adding another victory to his record.
