Carlos Alcaraz v Pedro Martinez Head to Head
While they have never faced off at the highest level, there have been three meetings between these two players on the Challengers circuit. All those matches were on clay and Alcaraz had won all of them.
Alcaraz Cruises Against Vavassori
Carlos Alcaraz was tested to the hilt by Tallon Griekspoor in the first round of this competition, dropping a set on his way to making it through but he had no such difficulties in the second.
Playing the 317th-ranked Andrea Vavassori, Alcaraz cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in a mere 65 minutes to seal off a place in the quarterfinals.
The Spaniard was back at his best, breaking Vavassori five times in the contest while saving the only break-point that he faced.
Interestingly, Alcaraz has never won a title in an indoor hardcourt competition and by getting to the quarterfinals he’s taken that one step closer to achieving that feat. The Australian Open quarterfinalist has another, potentially straightforward contest in the offing.

Martinez Shocks Rune
Holger Rune was in obvious discomfort, suffering from a flu probably but Pedro Martinez would just be thrilled to have made it past him and in the manner that he did.
Having earlier helped Spain win their Davis Cup tie against Switzerland, Martinez stunned the world number 14 in two easy sets. He won 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 24 minutes as Rune tried to shorten the rallies but came short of helping himself.
The two traded breaks with each other to kick-start the match before Martinez found a way to get past Rune’s serve in the 10th game of the opening set.
The second set proved to be a lot more straightforward for the Spaniard who broke Rune in the fourth and sixth game respectively before wrapping it up by serving to love.
Having earlier beaten Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets in the first round, it will be interesting to see how he goes against a player of the quality of Alcaraz.
Alcaraz v Martinez Prediction
Alcaraz has found his rhythm and looks to be fully fit. Looking at the manner in which he demolished his previous opponent, we can expect something similar against someone who prefers clay over the other surfaces.
Alcaraz v Martinez Tips
- Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 1/4
- Over 17.5 games in the match: 11/21
