Elena Rybakina v Belinda Bencic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one. Both matches came in 2021 with Bencic taking the lead at the Tokyo Olympics and Rybakina levelling things out in Chicago.
Rybakina in a Scrappy Win over Jabeur
She is the world number five at the moment but it’s rather difficult to say that Elena Rybakina is playing like one.
A 3-1 record at the United Cup was followed by a fourth round exit at the Australian Open and here, in Abu Dhabi, she has won a couple of rounds but has been stretched to the limits.
In her latest match, Rybakina needed a third set tie-breaker to get past Ons Jabeur and seal her place in the semifinal. This followed a three-set victory over Katie Volynets in the previous match.
In a match lasting two hours and 15 minutes, Rybakina dropped her serve three times including once in the final set which forced into a tie-breaker. Rybakina finally clinched the win 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4).

Bencic Stalls Vondrousova’s Run
Belinda Bencic has returned to competitive as strong as one would have expected her to following the birth of her child and that was on show again in the quarterfinals at Abu Dhabi.
Playing the former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, Bencic was a 3/5 favourite but little did someone expect her to run through her opposition.
The Swiss player won 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 46 minutes with the first set proving to be a rather slippery one for both.
In the end, it took Bencic four breaks of serve after losing her own serve on three occasions to clinch it. Things became easier in the second set as Bencic improved to 8-3 in main draw matches for the season.
This included a three-set win over Rebecca Sramkova in the first round here and a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing of Veronika Kudermetova in the second.
Rybakina v Bencic Prediction
Rybakina starts a 3/5 favourite but given the kind of form the two have shown this season we think this match is a lot more even than what those odds represent. Backing Bencic to win at least a set here.
Rybakina v Bencic Tips
- Over 19.5 games in the match: 4/9
- Bencic to win a set – Yes: 11/20
