Ashlyn Krueger comes into this encounter with a couple of big factors to consider.
One, she is in the form of her life, having made it to the final of the Abu Dhabi Open in which she lost to Belinda Bencic. What that performance meant was that she will enter this tournament having broken into the top 40 on the WTA charts for the first time in her career.
The other thing is a bit of a challenge for the American.
She played in that final in the second half of the day in Abu Dhabi on Sunday and while Doha is just about an hour or so away by flight, she would have had to pack up, travel, check in and be ready to feature in her opener on Monday around the same time.

Kenin Coming off Opening Loss in Abu Dhabi
In the same tournament that Krueger had made the final, Sofia Kenin was forced to feature in the qualifiers to make the main draw.
Kenin defeated Aoi Ito and Veronika Kudermetova in those matches to make it through to the first round but that’s where her journey ended.
That’s because Kenin lost to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-1 in a match that barely rose to any quality. Kenin was lacklustre in her showing and that allowed her opponent to run through her easily.
That followed a first round defeat at the hands of Cori Gauff at the Australian Open.
As mentioned earlier, the good news for Kenin is she would be a lot fresher if Krueger is indeed her opponent and that could allow her to run her close.
