Beatriz Haddad Maia v Magdalena Frech Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Haddad Maia leads 3-1. Haddad Maia had won at Birmingham in 2022, Canadian Open in 2023 and Wimbledon 2024 while Frech pulled one back in Wuhan last year.
Haddad Maia Struggling to Get Going
Beatriz Haddad Maia was ranked 10th in the world not so long ago. She is currently 16th at the moment, which is brilliant going by any stretch.
However, she also needs the results going her way to continue remaining in that top 20 zone, something that she has struggled to do in 2025.
It started with a shocking performance at the United Cup where she lost both her matches – to the unheralded Xinyu Gao and Laura Siegemund. Madison Keys then ousted her in the very first round of the Adelaide International to make it three losses in a row before Haddad Maia finally won one.
That came at the Australian Open where the Brazilian player came through against Julia Reira and Erika Andreeva in the first two rounds. And then, despite being a 17/20 favourite against Veronika Kudermetova in the third round, she fell away in straight sets.
Can she build on to that mini-momentum when she takes to court in Qatar?

Frech Also 2-4 for the Season
Like Haddad Maia, Magdalena Frech has also made a poor start to the year with just two wins under her belt from the six matches she has played.
It started at the Brisbane International where Frech went down to Suzan Lamens in her opener and continued in Adelaide when Jelena Ostapenko sent her packing.
Wins over Polina Kudermetova and Anna Blinkova at the Australian Open took her to the third round much like was the case for Haddad Maia but it was back to opening round defeats when Linda Noskova got the better of her in Abu Dhabi last week.
Frech enters this tournament on the back of three attempts here before this, in 2020, 2023 and 2024, and she has never made it past the first round. Two qualifying defeats were followed by a first round loss to Victoria Azarenka last year.
Can she win her first match ever in Doha?
Haddad Maia v Frech Prediction
While Haddad Maia has been tipped to win this at 8/11 by the bookmakers, we think Frech could pack a bit of a surprise and find a way to get past Haddad Maia. Might even see a three-setter.
Haddad Maia v Frech Tips
- Frech to win: 11/10
- Three sets in the match: 6/5
