Garcia Finally Wins a Match
We are about six weeks into the season and the former world number Caroline Garcia hadn’t won a match in 2025. That was until she faced Yue Yuan in the first round here.
Garcia, who had gone into the match as an 11/10 underdog, carved out a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win over Yuan in a match that went for almost two hours.
While Garcia coasted to an easy win in the first set and was 5-3 up at one stage in the second, Yuan came back to break her serve and push the set into a tie-breaker.
With Garcia having struggled all through the previous season and without a win under her belt in 2025, she would have felt some nerves but in the end the Frenchwoman managed to close it out in two.
