Parks Stuns Shnaider
Diana Shnaider’s form this year is a far cry from what it was last season but she was still a 1/3 favourite going into her opening round match against Alycia Parks.
As it turned out, Parks registered a straight-set win over Shnaider in a match that went on for an hour and 35 minutes.
Parks, who had made it to the main draw by winning a couple of qualifiers against Ysaline Bonaventure and Polina Kudermetova, slammed seven aces and won 76% of her first serve points.
And while the American was broken three times in this match, she always had a response at the most crucial of times – like she got the better of Shnaider’s serve at 5-4 to win the opening set and at 4-5 to take the second to a tie-breaker which she won.
