Cori Gauff v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Gauff leads 3-1.
In hardcourt competitions, it’s 3-0 for Gauff, having won in Adelaide in 2022 and Australian Open and Wuhan last year.
Gauff 9-1 for the Season
Cori Gauff said in her post match interview she was disappointed but wasn’t too worried about her result at the Australian Open after she fell to Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals.
Her fans would hope, however, that result would have spurred on to come back with a bigger bang given the kind of potential that’s on offer from Gauff.
The world number three has already won a Grand Slam and was on a nine-match winning streak heading into that Badosa match. That included a title win for USA at the United Cup, a tournament in which she won all five matches including one against Iga Swiatek.
That Swiatek win was specifically a big confidence-booster because it came in straight sets with Gauff shutting the world number two off easily.
Gauff now enters into her third tournament of the season, one in which she had been knocked out in the second round last year by Katerina Siniakova. Surely she would do better this time?

Kostyuk Crushes Sonmez
Marta Kostyuk had had a bit of a run at the Australian Open last month but other than that she had featured in two tournaments and lost her openers at both of them.
These included losses at the hands of Yue Yuan and Ashlyn Krueger in Brisbane and Adelaide respectively.
Incidentally, Kostyuk went down to Badosa too, the same player who would later go on to end Gauff’s journey at the season’s first major.
Which is why her 6-3, 6-3 win over Zeynep Sonmez would be a bit of a confidence-booster and a lot of relief for Kostyuk. It took her an hour and 34 minutes to get the win and saw her face 12 break-points – of which she saved 10.
Gauff will be a far tougher opposition with Kostyuk hoping to put up a bit of a fight there.
