Zizou Bergs v Clement Chidekh Preview
Head-to-Head: Their only previous outing came in the qualifiers of the 2024 French Open in which Bergs won in straight sets.
Zizou Bergs is currently ranked 61st in the world, one short of his career-best ranking which he had hit earlier this year. That had been thanks to his performance at the Auckland Open where, as a qualifier, Zizou had made it all the way to the final before Gael Monfils ended his dream campaign.
He followed that up with a first round loss at the Australian Open, which was a bit of a surprise given his run and the fact that he was up against Facundo Acosta Diaz, who had gone into that encounter as a 17/10 underdog.
Bergs then turned out for Belgium in their Davis Cup tie against Chile where he defeated Tomas Barrios Vera Marcelo and Cristian Garin to help his team go through.
He faces the 185th-ranked and qualifier Clement Chidekh in his opener. Chidekh hasn’t had the greatest start to the season with first round losses three Challenger tournaments and his inability to qualify at either the Australian Open or the Montpellier Open but he would be glad to have made the main draw here.
In setting up this meeting, Chidekh had defeated Martin Landaluce and Luca van Assche but Bergs would be a big step up now.
Bergs v Chidekh prediction: Bergs to win: 9/20
Luca Nardi v Daniel Altmaier Preview
Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting came in the 2024 Italian Open and Nardi had won that on clay.
Daniel Altmaier had been having a quite awful start to the season leading up to the Rotterdam Open, having won just one main draw match spread across four competitions.
And when Altmaier fell in the second qualifying round to Constant Lestienne, he would have had some serious questions about what he needed to do next.
That was till he made it through to the main draw as a lucky loser and then defeated Alexander Kovacevic and shocked Arthur Fils in the first two rounds to enter the quarterfinals. While Alex de Minaur finally ended his campaign, Altmaier would be reasonably happy with his effort.
He now will battle with Luca Nardi, who hasn’t played a lot of top level tennis season so far, having focussed more on the Challengers.
Nardi did make the second round at the Auckland Open but his bigger achievement this season came at the Koblenz Challenger, where starting out as a qualifier he made the final. Two days later, he lost in the first round of the Lille Challenger.
We could see a tough battle here that goes into a decider.
Nardi v Altmaier prediction: Three sets in the match: 6/5
Zhizhen Zhang v Quentin Halys Preview
Head-to-Head: Zhang and Halys have never faced off before this.
Zhizhen Zhang is in a desperate need of a turnaround to the kind of season he has had so far. Ranked 31st at his best last season, Zhang has fallen to 50th at the moment and that has been thanks to a plethora of results going against him.
While he kick-started the season with a victory at the United Cup against Thiago Monteiro, Zhang has won just one more match after that from six attempts. And even that victory came against the unranked Aleksa Krivokapic in the Davis Cup.
He now faces an equally out of sorts, Quentin Halys in his opener here. Halys is coming off a retirement from the Montpellier Open, which was the second time this season he had opted out in the middle of a match.
The Frenchman had earlier retired from his Adelaide qualifying encounter against Jacob Bradshaw as well.
Zhang will think he has a chance here to add to his meagre win count this year.
Zhang v Halys prediction: Zhang to win: 9/11
Benjamin Bonzi v Luca van Assche Preview
Head-to-Head: Their only previous meeting at the highest level came in Marseille in 2023 and Bonzi had won it in straight sets. Other than that there have been three Challengers meetings with Bonzi leading 2-1 in those.
Benjamin Bonzi has had a good time in Marseille, having made the semifinal in 2022 and then gone one better in 2023 by reaching the final.
And he has done equally well in 2025 too, winning at least one main draw match in each of the three ATP level tournaments he has played, including a third round appearance at the Australian Open.
His opponent here, fellow countryman Luca van Assche was once knocking on the doors of top 60 but has now fallen away drastically to 165th.
He had played in a couple of Challenger events before this, losing in the first round at both and then fell away in the qualifiers of this tournament before making it as a lucky loser.
Bonzi should have a good chance here.
Bonzi v van Assche prediction: Bonzi to win: 1/2
