Lorenzo Sonego v Luca Van Assche Preview
Head-to-Head: Sonego and van Assche have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Lorenzo Sonego had entered his first round match as a narrow, 4/5 favourite against Botic van de Zandschulp and the match turned out to be exactly as the bookmakers thought it would.
The world number 35 from Italy won it in the end but not before van de Zandschulp had taken him to the third set. It took him just over two hours to clinch a spot in the second round.
This followed a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open for Sonego which was followed by a first round exit at the Rotterdam Open at the hands of Holger Rune.
Sonego will now start a favourite yet again but this time a rather overwhelming one when he takes on Luca van Assche, who is ranked 164th at the moment.
A lucky loser in the tournament after having fallen away in the second qualifier, van Assche came back from a set down, saved two match-points at 6-4 down in the final tie-breaker before winning it off the second one he got.
He was on court for two hours and 13 minutes to register his first main draw win of the season.
Sonego v Van Assche prediction: Sonego to win: 1/2

Karen Khachanov v Hamad Medjedovic Preview
Head-to-Head: Khachanov and Medjedovic have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Karen Khachanov is returning to the courts following his third round appearance at the Australian Open late last month.
It’s a surprise he hasn’t played any tennis since but that’s how the cookie crumbles at times with players opting to rest up their niggles before the bigger events – which in his case could be the Indian Wells Open and Miami Masters.
The Russian had earlier been knocked out in the first round of the Hong Kong Open and while he overcame Adrian Mannarino and Gabriel Diallo in the first two rounds in Melbourne, he would have been expected to do better than to lose to Alex Michelsen in the third.
He will be up against the 96th-ranked Hamad Medjedovic who had a straightforward opener against Raphael Collignon.
The odds represented that and in the end, the result also spoke a similar language with the 1/3 favourite Medjedovic coasting to a 6-3, 6-4 win.
This was Medjedovic’s first main draw win of the season but he did win a Challenger title earlier this year and is now a win or two away from not just his career-best ranking but also breaking into the top 90. Can he cause an upset here?
Khachanov v Medjedovic prediction: Medjedovic to win a set – Yes: 1/2
