Daniil Medvedev v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head
The first time they met was at this very tournament in 2015 and Herbert had won that qualifying round.
Medvedev then defeated him in Rotterdam in 2018 while Herbert won at the 2019 French Open.
Their latest meeting came at the 2021 Marseille Open where Medvedev scraped through to a title win.
Medvedev Hoping for a Turnaround
The last time Daniil Medvedev featured in this tournament, it was 2021 and he had gone on to win it.
And that’s the kind of form he needs to be in and that’s the kind of confidence he needs to pick from if he wants to turn things around when he takes to court for this match and the rest of the tournament.
Because Medvedev has been struggling to make it work for him this year.
Sure, he has featured in only two tournaments so far in 2025 but losses in the second match at both would be a big dent to his confidence.
That those defeats came at the hands of Learner Tien and Mattia Bellucci, two relatively lesser known and lower-ranked players only adds to the intrigue. Can Medvedev turn his season around here?

Herbert Scrapes Past Mayot
Pierre-Hugues Herbert had gone into his opening round match against Hugo Mayot as at 10/11 odds with bookmakers unable to discern who the favourite actually was.
The manner in which Herbert lost the first set it seemed like the match was headed only one way but he came back strongly to clinch the next two in a match that lasted two hours and 36 minutes.
The former world number 36 grabbed a late break in the second set, in the 12th game, to level things out before going 5-0 up in the decider. Eventually he won 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 to seal his second round berth.
This follows his finals appearance at the Quimper Challenger following which Herbert fell in his Lille Challenger opener and then needed a couple of qualifiers to come through here.
Medvedev v Herbert Prediction
Medvedev might not be in great form but he should not have a lot of problem here. The bit of a question-mark is whether he can do that in straight sets and at 4/5 we are a tad tempted to go for it there.
Medvedev v Herbert Tips
- Medvedev to win in straight sets: 4/5
