Jan-Lennard Struff v Hugo Grenier Preview
Head-to-Head: World number 46 Struff and the 202nd-ranked Grenier have never faced off in a competitive match before this.
Jan-Lennard Struff kick-started this competition on the back of a very poor showing in the early part of this season. He had defeated Y Bu in Auckland but since then, his record had read – three matches played, three lost.
Which is why when he took on Manuel Guinard, a lucky loser in the first round, Struff’s nerves would have been jangling.
That he managed to come through in straight sets in the first round would have given him some respite but it wasn’t before Guinard had managed to find a way to trouble Struff. He remained on court for nearly two hours before winning 7-5, 7-6 (4) and reaching the second round.
Here he takes on Hugo Grenier, who defeated fellow French qualifier Arthur Gea in the first round. The 202nd-ranked Grenier came away a 7-5, 6-4 winner to clinch his first main draw win at this level since Doha 2024 – that’s nearly 12 months ago.
Struff has a good chance here to stack up his victories as he takes on a player ranked outside the top 200.
Struff v Grenier prediction: Struff to win: 2/5

Nuno Borges v Zizou Bergs Preview
Head-to-Head: The only time these two have faced off at this level came as recently as the Auckland Open last month in which Bergs had grabbed a hard-fought win to make the final.
Nuno Borges continued to inflict more misery on Stan Wawrinka as he edged out the former Grand Slam winner in three sets in the first round here.
Having gone in as a 3/5 favourite, Borges was made to work hard when he fell a set and 1-4 behind to Wawrinka but then began a comeback of excellent proportions. He broke back in the seventh game there and romped to an equaliser in the tie-breaker that followed.
And in the decider, all he needed was a break in the sixth game to clinch a scratchy victory.
This follows a season in which Borges has made the semifinal at the Auckland Open and the third round at the first major of the year.
As mentioned earlier, Bergs made the final of the Auckland Open earlier this season, which was his career’s first such achievement and while he lost to Gael Monfils, he did seem to take a lot of confidence from it.
Bergs lost in his opener at the Australian Open but since then has won a couple of Davis Cup matches and then defeated Clement Chidekh in the first round here. He won 6-4, 6-4 against Chidekh.
Borges v Bergs prediction: Over 22.5 games in the match: 4/5
