Qualifier Djere Ends Tabilo’s Run
Alejandro Tabilo’s underwhelming form this season had meant that Laslo Djere, despite being ranked outside the top 100 and having come into the main draw by featuring in the qualifiers, started off a favourite.
And while the Serb lost the first set rather easily to Tabilo, he came back and clinched a spot in the last eight with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (2) win in a match that went on for two hours and 15 minutes.
After losing his serve on two occasions in the first set, Djere did not face a single break-point in the remainder of the encounter while getting the better of Tabilo’s serve on three occasions.
Djere had earlier made it past Alexandre Muller in the first round in what was his first main draw victory at this level this season.
Seyboth Wild could prove to be a bit too hot to handle for the current version of Djere though the Serb has beaten him three times earlier.
