Joao Fonseca v Mariano Navone Head to Head
Their only previous match at this level came at the 2024 Rio Open and Navone had come through in three sets. Before that there had been a match on the Challenger circuit in 2022 which Fonseca had won.
Fonseca Goes Past Coria
For the second match in a row in the Argentina Open, Joao Fonseca took on an Argentine and for the second time he got past his opponent to seal his place in the quarterfinal.
Fonseca had caught the eye of the fans at the Australian Open recently, when in a hardcourt competition he had shocked Andrey Rublev in the first round of the tournament.
He has now come back to continue from where he left off on a surface that is deemed more suited to his style – on clay.
The Brazilian teenager did not have it too easy though and he was on court for two hours and 14 minutes in which he came back from a set down to win it in three.
After getting broken three times in the first set, Fonseca came back to never lose his serve again and won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 and enter the quarterfinal in his maiden appearance in this tournament.

Navone Stuns Rune
Holger Rune hasn’t been at his best and of that there is no doubt but for Mariano Navone to seal off his quarterfinal place in the manner he did against the world number 12 was a job well done.
Navone won 6-1, 7-6 (2), making it back to back victories in a tournament for him for the first time since he made the final of the Bucharest Open last April – nearly 10 months ago.
What might have helped Navone a teeny bit was the crowd support he had as they began to turn more and more against his opponent.
Following a straightforward win over Francisco Comesana in the first round, Navone cruised through an easy opening set. The going got a little tough in the second when Navone was forced to save a couple of break-points but he was never broken and clinched the tie-breaker that followed.
Can he now pull out something similar against Fonseca?
Fonseca v Navone Prediction
Fonseca has beaten two Argentines in a row and would be gunning for a third victory here. His form and his performances on clay make him a favourite and we will be going with him here to win in straight sets.
