Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Matteo Arnaldi Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Arnaldi has won both. The first came in Montreal last year and they then faced off again just last week in Dallas.
Fokina Stops Fritz Hat-Trick
Taylor Fritz was a two-time defending champion and a huge favourite to go the distance. Alejandro Daviodvich Fokina was coming off a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open but a 4/1 underdog coming into this encounter.
And yet, all throughout the match, it was Fokina who held the edge.
Twice in the opening set, the Spaniard went up a break and then got broken back. He won it in a tie-breaker.
The same thing happened once again in the second set before it went into a tie-breaker and for the second time, Fokina clinched the tie-breaker to grab the victory.
He will now look to make it to his first ever final in an ATP event since 2020 and his maiden one on hardcourts.

Arnaldi Eases Past Nakashima
Following a first round bye, Matteo Arnaldi had a hard time on court in the second round when Learner Tien continued to impress and took him to the third set. Arnaldi came through in a final set tie-breaker.
Things weren’t as difficult for Arnaldi in his quarterfinal and while Brandon Nakashima still managed to push him in an hour and 44 minutes long encounter, it turned out to be a straight-set win for him.
Arnaldi faced just one break-point in the match and saved it while getting past Nakashima once from the two chances that he himself had. He won 7-6 (2), 6-4 to enter the semifinals.
He will now be gunning for his maiden ATP final round appearance but he does have a Masters 1000 semifinal under his belt which had come last year at the Canadian Open.
Can Arnaldi usurp Fokina in this encounter?
