Xinyu Wang v Alycia Parks Head to Head
Wang and Parks will be facing off for the first time.
Wang Lost in Doha Opener
It’s been a strange sort of a season for Xinyu Wang. From looking like she could break into the top 25 or even 20 last season, Wang has fallen a few spots and by the time this tournament starts, she would have slipped outside the top 40.
That has been down to the manner in which she has lost in the first round of four of the five tournaments she has featured in.
Wang fell in the first round at Brisbane, Adelaide and then at the Australian Open before finally reviving some of her old form at the Singapore Open. She made the semifinals there.
Unfortunately for her, the old form came back to bite her when Wang was beaten by Elina Avanesyan in the first round in Doha last week, leaving her with a lot more questions than answers.

Parks Solid in Qualifiers
Alycia Parks was once ranked 40th in the world but has slid down the rankings chart and is now 90th on the WTA Rankings.
A semifinal appearance at the Auckland Open earlier this year obviously helped her cause but since then, Parks has won just one main draw match and that came in Doha where she stunned Diana Shnaider having made it through the qualifiers.
What this seems to suggest is that Parks has the game to overcome most players in the world but is still some way away from becoming repetitive in her game.
In Dubai, Parks has managed to make it through the qualifiers yet again, defeating Polina Kudermetova and Bernarda Pera in the process. Can she now pull off an upset against Wang?
Wang v Parks Prediction
This isn’t a straightforward one to call given the kind of form that both these players have shown all season. Wang might just hold the edge but on her day, we could see Parks cause an upset in this one.
Wang v Parks Tips
- Parks to win: 11/10
