Carlos Alcaraz v Marin Cilic Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two and while Marin Cilic had won in their very first one in Estoril in 2021, Alcaraz came back to triumph in Miami, Cincinnati and US Open, all of which came in 2022.
Alcaraz Coming off Rotterdam Title Win
Carlos Alcaraz shrugged off his quarterfinal loss at the Australian Open, albeit at the hands of Novak Djokovic to come back and clinch the title at the second tournament he featured in this season.
It came on the indoor hardcourts of Rotterdam, a surface on which Alcaraz had never won a tournament before this.
And while that would have pleased Alcaraz no ends, it must be quickly added here that it wasn’t as straightforward as he would have liked. In fact in three of the five matches that the world number three won, he was taken to a third set.
These were against Botic van de Zandschulp, Hubert Hurkacz and then in the final against Alex de Minaur.
The other way of looking at it is he was well-tested and looked sharp enough to jump through those hoops and capture his maiden title of the season.

Cilic Returning after Recovering from Knee Injury
Marin Cilic featured in competitive tennis only from August onward last year after being out of action for about six months because of fitness-related issues.
In those six months, Cilic won a title in Hanzhou but in the five tournaments that followed, he failed to grab more than one match win.
He did not return to the circuit immediately in 2025, opting to rest out a knee-related issue but in a social media post had assured his fans he was recovering well and would be back soon enough.
And about a month and a half into the season, Cillic has returned to the courts as he takes on one of the best players in the world today – it sure will be a big test in more ways than one for the Croat.
In his only previous time in Doha earlier, Cilic had made the quarterfinal where he had lost to Karen Khachanov. Can he put up some fight here against Alcaraz?
