Christopher O’Connell v Hady Habib Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between O’Connell and Habib.
O’Connell Makes it Through the Qualifiers
It’s been a forgettable start to the season for Australia’s Christopher O’Connell. He had entered the qualifiers of this tournament in Doha with just one main draw win that had come in Adelaide last month.
On either side of that, O’Connell had suffered losses to the likes of Alex Michelsen, Miomir Kecmanovic and Tommy Paul to end his Australian Open swing.
Since then, O’Connell has been out of action till he made the qualifiers here following a break of over a month.
It did look like the break had helped the Aussie with O’Connell winning Yosuke Watanuki and Pavel Kotov to make the main draw.
He has a relatively more straightforward opener here too, which should help him get back into the winning scheme of things.

Habib Looking to Build on Australian Open First
Hady Habib had gone into the Australian Open qualifiers with not too much hope but he overcame Patrick Kypson, Tseng Chun-hsin and Clément Chidekh – two of whom were favourites going into the match – to make it to the main draw of the season’s first major.
But even more shockingly, Habib went on to stun Bu Yunchaokete in his opener there, in turn creating a record to become the first from his country – Lebanon – to win a Grand Slam match.
The only match that Habib has played since his second round loss to Ugo Humbert was at the Davis Cup which he lost to Peru’s Gonzalo Bueno.
He will have his work cut out with so little tennis action but then he is also facing a player who hasn’t had too much tennis himself.
O’Connell v Habib Prediction
Backing O’Connell to get back to his winning ways but can he pull off a convincing effort to get himself into a contention of going deep into competitions in the near future. Doubtful.
O’Connell v Habib Tips
- O’Connell to win: 1/4
- Over 19.5 games in the match: 3/5
